Ski Pembrey goes on the road

Ski Pembrey is taking to the road so more people in Carmarthenshire find out about the “secret” attraction in Pembrey Country Park.
It’s the most popular artificial ski slope in Wales with thousands of visitors travelling to it from outside the county but few outside the immediate locality knowing it exists.
It’s been found many from the county are travelling outside of Wales unaware of the spectacular facility they have on their doorstep.
As a result Ski Pembrey is going and about on a 'Slide & Ride Road show', in the heart of the prestigious new shopping centre, St Catherine's Walk, Carmarthen on the half term weekend. This follows on a similar road show in Swansea Marinia that gathered interest like a rolling snowball..
Ski Pembrey will be rolling out the green carpet (ski mat) along the centre’s natural sloping ground between 10am and 4pm on Friday 29th and Saturday 30th October in the square directly outside Frankie & Bennies and the Cinema. Children between the age of five and 17 will be able to try out the portable ski slope for free.
Shopping centre manager, Mike Pugh is supporting the venture.
Pupils from Ysgol y Dderwen in Carmarthen are being invited to launch the event.
Anyone turning up to see the portable slope will be in with a chance of winning a winter ski pass for Ski Pembrey, along with four private skiing lessons in order to get them going. Total prize value is £400. Pembrey skip staff will also be using the event to promote our specialist ski and boot fitting services. There’s a half price sale at all ski equipment at Ski Pembrey over half term.
Ski centre manager Eirian Morris said he was in Carmarthen recently and was astonished people he spoke to there knew nothing about Ski Pembrey despite the extensive advertising and tourism effort they made.
“I was astonished to learn from some that they travelled to Cardiff and even Gloucester to ski when our slopes have a better reputation and people from Gloucester have travelled to us!”
County executive board member for leisure services Clive Scourfield said: “I am astionished that even people who visit pembrey Country Park regularly do not know about the ski slope and the fantastic facility it is.
“Not only it is a great location with great slopes and a tobaggan but expert staff and equipment for all skiing needs with a tremendous ski lodge style café and an a specialist equipment shop that offers tremendous opportunities for skiers."
