Quality marque for National Botanic Garden of Wales

The Welsh tourism industry’s quality marque for attractions has been awarded to the National Botanic Garden of Wales in Llanarthne, near Carmarthen.
In its 2010 assessment, the Visitor Attraction Quality Assurance Service (VAQAS) said the Garden “comfortably merits” the accreditation.
VAQAS inspector Huw Thomas praised the maintenance of the grounds and buildings; customer service; the interpretive panels; and plant labelling.
He goes on to say: “The continuing growth and development of the Garden and exhibits together with the changing seasons, mean that there is usually something new for visitors to see on each visit.”
Garden director, Dr Rosetta Plummer, was delighted with the mystery shopper-style report. She said: “They have scored us very well in everything we do which is very positive indeed.
“It is very useful to be able to remind our excellent team of staff and volunteers that they are doing a very good job – from answering phones, driving the buggies; what we offer in the shop, cafes and restaurants; to keeping the site clear of litter and the website up to date.”
Dr Plummer added: “After a long, hard summer season it is the perfect pat on the back for everyone who has worked so hard to make the Garden a fantastic day out.”
The VAQAS report concurs, saying: “The National Botanic Garden of Wales continues to offer the chance for visitors to enjoy the beauty of the surroundings, supported by good standards of customer care.”
VAQAS Cymru is administered by Visit Wales on behalf of the Welsh Assembly Government. The annual assessment visit takes into account: pre-arrival: how telephone enquiries are dealt with, leaflet and website design; and, on arrival: initial signage, car park and warmth of welcome; before going on to consider the Attraction itself. The Assessor “experiences” all aspects of the Attraction just like the visitor, and observes other visitors to see their reactions. A check is made on the site’s efficiency, cleanliness, staff appearance, toilets, catering and retailing if provided. Following the visit a comprehensive report is produced, including any suggestions for improvement.
