Spotlight on digital in Carmarthenshire

Digital technology is an important part of today’s world. Mobile phones, computers, digital television and the internet make information more accessible, communication faster and life more efficient.
That’s why Carmarthenshire Council wants to help communities in the county benefit from digital technology.
Communities 2.0 is a Welsh Assembly Government project which helps community groups, voluntary organisations and social enterprises in Wales to benefit from technology. The council wants to break down the barriers to using technology, inspire people, build confidence and create opportunities.
There are still many people in Wales who lack confidence when it comes to computers, new mobile phone services and technology because they don’t know how to use them or they don’t know where to find equipment or support.
Perhaps they just don’t know what the benefits are?
The council wants to change that.
For example, digital technology can be used for shopping, searching for the best banking or insurance deals, using government services, accessing jobs online or keeping in touch with friends and family.
Think how this could help you.
Digital technology can be of real benefit to older people, disabled people and people on low incomes - it can open a whole new world of opportunities.
Carmarthenshire County Council’s Digital Inclusion Team, which is working on Communities 2.0 with four other partner organisations, is already working with Communities First Partnerships and Sheltered Accommodation Schemes, as well as looking at how it can improve access to Council Services through E-Government initiatives.
If you want to do something and you think digital technology might help you to do it better, the digital team wants to hear from you.
If you’re involved with a community group or voluntary organisation, can digital technology help the way you support people in your area?
