Trinity Festival promises to be a treat

The Trinity Arts Festival (Gwyl y Drindod) is all set to provide a magnificent month of music and drama.
“Always hugely popular, the festival guarantees to provide something for everyone,” festival director Eilir Owen Griffiths said this week.
The festival will kick-off on May 31 and run throughout the month of June.
This year’s event – the fifth festival – will see a new innovation, with events also being staged in Lampeter.
The Lampeter venues have been added as part of the move towards the formation of a new university – Trinity St David in September.
“It means we get to reach out to a wider section of the public and it also sees us building on the greats links we are establishing with Lampeter,” the festival director said from the Trinity University campus in Carmarthen.
The festival will also use the stunning Newton House in Dinefwr Park, Llandeilo, for some performances.
“After last year’s festival, when we saw the world premiere of a work by Karl Jenkins, it was always going to be a hard act to follow,” said Mr Griffiths.
“But we think the programme of events is a great mix which will prove attractive to the public - and my advice would be to book early for many of the performances as demand for tickets will be high.”
One of the highlights of the festival programme will be the appearance of Ceredigion tenor Robyn Lyn.

He is a graduate of Trinity College Carmarthen (where he was awarded the Stuart Burrows bursary) and a postgraduate of the Royal College of Music, London.
He will feature in two concerts, one in Carmarthen and one in Lampeter.
The Lampeter concert will also feature mezzo-soprano Caryl Hughes, winner of last year’s festival Stuart Burrows International Voice Award.

Mr Griffiths, 29, said: “There is something of an experimental theme to this year’s festival in that it visits the two university sites, as well as Newton House.
“But in many ways it should just whet the appetite for next year, when the festival will be truly massive.”
Mr Griffiths smiled and added: “I can’t tell you too much about next year yet as it’s still very hush-hush. But this year’s event, with a great mix of theatre, opera and music, will be a huge treat. And it’ll set everyone up nicely for next year’s festival!
“Without a doubt, the festival has grown in appeal and stature year by year. And we are always looking at ways of improving the event every year.”
