Wacky Wednesday at Botanic Gardens

Families in Carmarthenshire will have the chance to join in the fun at a special celebration, ‘Wacky Wednesday’, on October 28 to mark this year’s Parents’ Week at the National Botanic Gardens.
Keith Towler, The Children’s Commissioner for Wales, will open the event and will speak about his role as a commissioner and children’s rights.
Building on the success of last year, the event offers a range of activities for children and families including a host of children’s entertainers, Carmarthenshire Children’s Services Play Bus, face painting, balloon modelling, story telling, arts and crafts.
Local organisations including Action for Children, Plant Dewi and Carmarthenshire County Council will be involved. In addition, the consultation on Carmarthenshire’s Family Support Strategy will be opened, where information will be available about local services for Children and Families where members of the public can give feedback on the services and information they need.
During the event, the Carmarthenshire Family Information Service will officially launch their new website. The website will allow parents to search the childcare facilities around the County, as well as giving information on a whole range of parenting issues, and the support that is available to families within Carmarthenshire.
Parents’ Week is hosted by the Family and Parenting Institute and is established as a way of getting families at the top of the political agenda nationally and locally.
This year’s theme is ‘The Changing Face of Families’ and there will be events running for parents, carers and families all over the country.
Councillor Gwynne Wooldridge, Executive Board Member for Children and Education Services said: Parents' Day provides an opportunity to recognize and promote parenting as a central vocation for our families and communities. This celebratory event makes a statement about what is important in our society and to that the role of parents is crucial in the nurturing and development. Please show your support and join in the fun at this family event.
David Hardy, Head of Marketing and Communications at the Botanic Gardens added:“We are really pleased to be hosting this event and we are hoping for a big turn out.
“Not only do we want a really good event that is fun for everyone, we are also keen to ‘get it right for families’ and by holding Wacky Wednesday we think we will do just that.”
