The latest 'On Song' column from the Llanelli Star

The latest 'On Song' column (about the choral scene in and around Llanelli) from the Llanelli Star -

There’s a rare treat in store at Ffwrnes Theatre, Llanelli, on Sunday, March 20 when the Academic Male Choir of Tallinn University of Technology in Estonia roll into town.
This is an opportunity to experience one of Europe’s most accomplished male choirs.
The chorus, with its highly professional musical standards and busy touring traditions, performs a diverse repertoire, ranging from classical masterpieces to the classics of easy listening, marching, college songs and Estonian music.
Before that, on March 17, British pianist Robin Covill presents ‘Bach to Gershwin at Ffwrnes Theatre, Llanelli.
This is a welcome return visit from the highly acclaimed British pianist, whose concert programme features a collection of famous piano works by major composers including Bach, Mozart, Beethoven, Chopin, Debussy, Sibelius and Gershwin.
Robin is both a virtuoso pianist and an accomplished raconteur and his introductions give a wonderful insight into the world of classical music and musicians.
Sinfonia Cymru bring an evening of Stravinsky, Beethoven and Mozart to Pontyberem on Friday, March 18. The concert takes place at the Pontyberem Memorial Hall, starting at 7.30pm.
The featured violinist will be Benjamin Baker.
The evening will feature a lively and exhilarating programme of classical music.
Stravinsky’s Danses Concertantes was originally written for the concert stage in 1942 and has also been choreographed and performed as a one-act ballet. The piece is a great example of the composer’s invigorating style.
Beethoven’s Violin Concerto in D Major, written in 1806, is the composer’s only violin concerto. It is a bright and lyrical piece and has become one of the most popular works for violin.
Symphony No. 41 in C ‘Jupiter’ was Mozart’s last symphony, written in 1788. It is a work of richness and splendour, often viewed as his greatest symphony.
This is a very special year for Sinfonia Cymru as it marks the orchestra’s 20th birthday.
