Ammanford world record attempt for largest gathering of snowmen

Ammanford's latest world record attempt is to bring together the largest gathering of snowmen – which will be snow mean feat.
The Guinness Book of Records bid for the largest number of people dressed as snowmen in one place will be a highlight of the Wonders of Christmas Festival on Saturday November 28. The event will be taking place at Arcade Square adjoining Margaret Street Car Park.
Last year a total of 290 Snowmen were assembled. The current world record stands at 340.
Angela Phillips, Secretary of Ammanford Chamber of Trade is asking parents to dress up this year, commenting that “we’d have made the record last year if parents had dressed up as well as their children”.
In order to be registered snowmen will have to be wearing a white top and bottom, have a hat, scarf, 3 black buttons and importantly a carrot coloured nose. Noses will be available to purchase on the day for those who don’t bring their own.
Registration will start at the Amman Centre at 10.00am until 1.00pm and will then continue on Arcade Square until 2.45pm. Counting will start at 3.00pm with children’s cartoon character keeping the snowmen entertained.
The switching-on of the Christmas Lights in Ammanford Town Centre is an annual event run by Ammanford Chamber of Trade and Ammanford Town Council. The event is supported by Carmarthenshire County Council with free parking on Friday November 27 and Saturday November 28 to allow shoppers an attractive reason to come shopping in town.
The day’s entertainment will see a funfair in Quay Street, and several children’s street entertainers from 2-7pm including Crazy Clayton, children’s entertainer, and Occasional Twist, balloon artist.
Radio Carmarthenshire will have a music and entertainment stage running from 3-6pm with a range of live entertainment.
At Ebenezer Chapel there are also plans for a Christmas Tree Festival, a 'Do you want to build a Snowman' Children's Competition to be displayed at Ebenezer Chapel Vestry Friday and Saturday, a Ginger Bread Bake off Challenge Competition to be judged and displayed at Ebenezer Chapel Vestry on the Saturday.
A Craft Market will be held on Quay Street 10am-7pm and a Santa Grotto on Quay Street by the Post Office from 2pm - 7pm.
The Guinness Record Attempt for the most number of people dressed as snowmen will be held at College Street Piazza, registration from 1pm, with photographs and the final count at 3pm.
The snowman-themed parade with floats will set off at 3.30pm from the Piazza, through College Street, Wind Street and round to the Pensioners Hall on to Quay Street. The lights will be switched on at 5.30pm followed by fireworks from 6-7pm.
Executive board member for regeneration and leisure Cllr Meryl Gravell said: “Ammanford can look forward to an exciting start to Christmas with a fantastic variety of events. I hope as many people as possible will join the Guinness Record attempt to get as many snowmen as possible together in one place.”
