The latest 'On Song'column (about the choral scene in and around Llanelli) from the Llanelli Star -

He’s something of a living legend in Wales.
The tenor Trebor Edwards will feature in a special Gala Concert staged by Loud Applause Productions in Kidwelly on Saturday (July 19).
The concert is being held at the Princess Gwenllian Centre, Kidwelly, with Theatrau Sir Gar selling tickets on behalf of Loud Applause.
Well known for his rendition of ‘Un Dydd ar y Tro’,Trebor Edwards is one of Wales’s famous lyrical tenors. Surprisingly, he has not performed in this area for a number of years.
He is one of the most successful recording artists the Welsh recording industry has seen, with album sales well in excess of a quarter of a million.
He lives in Betws Gwerful Goch, near Corwen, where he farmed until his recent retirement, and is still in demand at concerts and festivals all over Wales and beyond.
He is a naturally gifted singer of traditional Welsh favourites and adaptations of international popular ballads.
His natural easy-going personality and singing style has endeared him to audiences all over the world, and he has entertained on many cruises.
His appeal extends beyond the Welsh language, and his English albums have been notable successes.
Trebor Edwards has received many golden discs from SAIN recording studios for record sales, and the appeal of his effortless tenor voice remains undiminished.
Trebor will be joined by the Kidwelly Festival Choir under the baton of Andrew J. Pike and ladies choir Parti Llwchwr and soloist Keely Morgan.
The concert is in aid of Ty Cymorth Hospice at Glangwili General Hospital, Carmarthen.
On the same night (July 19) in Llanelli, the town’s popular ladies choir, Côr Curiad, will be performing at a Gala Concert being organised by the Llanelli Masonic Festival Committee at Ffwrnes Theatre.
The evening will be compered by the hilarious TV comedian Owen Money and will also feature the award winning Burry Port Town Brass Band and the renowned National Eisteddfod winning soloist tenor Richard Allen.
The Côr Curiad ladies have also started work on planning their 20th anniversary celebrations next year. The choristers are lining up a special guest artist for the anniversary show, which will be held in the spring.
Meanwhile, it is a busy time for Côr Meibion Dyffryn Tywi, The Vale of Towy Male Voice.
On Saturday, July 19, they will be performing at the Medieval Fair being staged at Kidwelly Castle.
Other engagements include –
Monday, August 4, Eisteddfod Sir Gar in Llanelli.
Saturday, October 4, concert at Bancyfelin Hall.
Saturday, October 18, concert at The Lyric Theatre, Carmarthen.
On Tuesday, July 22, the choir members will be presenting a very special evening featuring a group of visiting folk singers and dancers from Karelia.
The evening will be at the Red Lion in Llandyfaelog, starting at 7.30pm.
The Karelians are very much like the Welsh in that they are fiercely proud of their heritage and customs.
The land of the Karelian people is an area in Northern Europe of historical significance for Finland, Russia, and Sweden.
It is currently divided between the Russian Republic of Karelia, the Russian Leningrad Oblast, and Finland (the regions of South Karelia and North Karelia).
Tickets for the Karelian entertainers are £4 and available from choir members.
Anyone interested in joining Côr Meibion Dyffryn Tywi, should contact the choir secretary, Derrick Rowlands on 01269860996 or 07891467663.
