West Wales legal hub idea launched by Red Kite


Law firm Red Kite is looking at establishing innovative new partnerships with smaller law firms in West Wales.
Red Kite Law is drawing up a feasibility study for a West Wales legal hub, following attempts to establish similar networks in other parts of Wales.
“Legal hub networks are a recent innovation in the legal world,” said Red Kite Law partner David Sangster, pictured above.
“As a go-ahead law firm, we always like to be in the vanguard of new innovations and this legal hub network idea could provide a big plus for smaller law firms in West Wales.
“No longer will they have to risk losing clients to bigger firms outside West Wales if they are asked to do work outside their skill set.
“For example, smaller law firms can join a hub operated by Red Kite Law, refer the work they can’t do to Red Kite Law and benefit from referral fees, safe in the knowledge that the client will be returned to them with a smile!
“We are fortunate in already having good relationships with many West Wales law firms and it would make sense for us to lead the network hub and provide an alternative to other Cardiff-centric hubs which may be established. Let’s look after local people locally.”
Mr Sangster said there would be a range of benefits for West Wales legal firms in joining a network hub.
For example, a network hub could offer -
  • A fee share arrangement for referrals of relevant work (backed by a non poaching “keep it local” agreement). 
  • Access to a larger buying group with an improved offering of local suppliers. 
  • Access to a programme of Continual Professional Development (CPD seminars). 
  • Access to state-of-the-art ‘back office’ and support. 
Mr Sangster said a West Wales legal network hub would be free to join and firms would be asked about the type of support they would find most useful.
He added that Red Kite Law team members would be canvassing opinions in the West Wales legal world very shortly.

Red Kite Law has 13 partners and a total headcount of 81, with seven offices spread across Pembrokeshire and Carmarthenshire. The senior management team consists of Andrew Manning as CEO, Gayle Butland HR Manager, Chris Woolley as Finance Director and Sally Calverley as Business Development Director.

'Class of 1980' from Burry Port enjoy reunion

There was a big class reunion held in Burry Port at the weekend. Members of the Class of 1980 from Porth Tywyn (Burry Port junior) School got together at The Coasting Pilot pub. The reunion was organised by Christine Rees and same 22 members of the original class of 28 turn up to discuss their old schooldays. One ‘Class of 1980’ member was Burry Port businessman Owain Davies. He said: “We all have very happy memories of our time in school. We had a fantastic teacher in Mr Heddwyn Jones, who now lives in Four Roads. “We were very fortunate to have the same teacher for three years and we were a very happy class. Mr Jones was an inspiring teacher and we all got on every well and we are all still good friends. “Heather Thomas (now Heather Osmond) made it from Surrey, but she was trumped by Gail Morris, who flew in from Ohio in the United States for the reunion. “It was a fantastic evening at the Coasting Pilot with good food, good wine and good company. Lauryn Davey is making her mark in athletics - but needs sponsors

Ammanford-based Lauryn Davey is making a major mark in the world of Welsh athletics. At just 16, she is the best all-round athlete of her age in Wales. She's chalking up Welsh championship victories and has been honoured by her club, the Carmarthen Harriers. Lauryn's been earmarked as a future international star, but knows the road to the big championships is difficult, demanding and expensive. Ammanford businessman and well-known comic entertainer Phil Evans has launched a campaign to get cash backers for Lauryn's athletics career.
