Nominate a local nurse in the RCN in Wales Nurse of the Year 2013
People in Carmarthenshire, Ceredigion and Pembrokeshire who may have been cared for by an exemplary nurse are being encouraged by Hywel Dda Health Board to make a nomination in the 2013 Nurse of the Year Award.
Now in its second year, the Royal College of Nursing (RCN) in Wales Annual Nurse of the Year Awards will be held in the City Hall Cardiff on Wednesday, 27 November 2013.
These awards demonstrate the value of the nursing family and honour best practice within the community. They were created to highlight nursing’s best and brightest lights. Nurses can be nominated by peers, teams, managers, patients and the general public. All qualified nurses and midwives registered to practice in Wales, pre-registration nursing students and healthcare support workers are eligible to enter the Awards.
Hywel Dda Health Board’s Director of Nursing & Midwifery Caroline Oakley said “Many people have their lives touched by our nurses and I would encourage them to nominate members of our nursing staff. These are prestigious awards and would help us to celebrate our nurses across our area.”
The nominated candidates must demonstrate a passion for the nursing profession and exemplify distinction in care, leadership, service and innovation and the winners are selected by a distinguished committee of nursing leaders.
This year's categories include:
Learning Disabilities and Mental Health Award
Registered Nurse (Adult) Award
Community Nursing Award
Clinical Nurse Specialist Award
Children and Midwifery Award
Health Care Support Worker Award
Nursing Student Award
Research in Nursing Award
Innovation in Nursing Award
Chief Nursing Officer for Wales Award
New Awards for 2013:
Nurse Education Award
Commissioner for Older Persons Award
Humanitarian Relief Award
An overall “RCN Wales Nurse of the Year” will be identified from the winners of these categories. There is also a new award - RCN in Wales Lifetime Achievement Award.
Application forms can be downloaded from the website www.rcn.org.uk/walesnurseoftheyear or can be obtained by emailing nurseoftheyearawards@rcn.org.uk.
