Cats chance is just the job for pupils of Stagecoach Carmarthen

Pupils of the popular Stagecoach Theatre Arts group in Carmarthen have an amazing opportunity to take the stage in a performance of Cats in the 12,000-seat National Indoor Arena in Birmingham.
The world-famous Andrew Lloyd Webber musical is being performed as part of the 25th anniversary of Stagecoach Theatre Arts in the UK.
“It is a massive performance – and a massive opportunity,” said Stagecoach Carmarthen principal Liane Davies.
“Stagecoach has managed to secure the rights to stage Cats on March 24 next year (2013) to coincide with the 25th anniversary celebrations.
“It’s a big coup for Stagecoach nationally – and it is also brilliant news for us at Stagecoach in Carmarthen.
“Competition for a place in the production was tough as there are more than 600 Stagecoach schools in the UK alone and only 35 schools are being allowed take part in the show.
“I am delighted to say that we have been picked as one of the schools to take part.
“I will be taking 100 of my students up to Birmingham - all my six to 18-year-olds for the rehearsals and the performance. Some of the older pupils will be among the main characters and there are going to be celebrities playing supporting roles.
“So, as you can imagine, it is a very exciting time for us at Stagecoach in Carmarthen.
“We will have at least two buses travel up from Carmarthen, so we will have something of a mini-convoy going up the motorway.”
Cats first opened on the West End stage in 1981. It has become one of the world’s best known and best loved musicals.
With a plot based on T.S Eliot’s Old Possum’s Book of Practical Cats and award-winning music composed by Andrew Lloyd Webber; Cats, originally directed by Trevor Nunn, has since been presented in more than 20 countries and in about 250 cities, including such diverse destinations as Buenos Aires, Seoul, Helsinki and Singapore.
The show has been translated into 10 languages.
Stagecoach Theatre Arts Carmarthen has its base at the Model Church in Wales School.
