Hywel Dda Health Board briefing now available

Hywel Dda Health Board's latest 'Developing our Clinical Service Strategy' briefing is now available.
This briefing aims to keep staff and stakeholders informed about progress with activities in relation to the Health Board’s Clinical Service Strategy process which is aimed at building a high quality and sustainable healthcare system within the Hywel Dda healthcare area.

The report, from Opinion Research Services, includes qualitative data gathered from direct conversations, focus groups and letters from individuals.
Chief Executive Trevor Purt said: “This full report has given us a significant depth and breadth of feedback from our staff, partners, patients and local population. We will use this in our final stages of agreeing options with key stakeholders ahead of the consultation launch in August.
“The consultation document will identify where feedback has shaped options and we hope this will demonstrate that we have listened to the views of our population.”
The report was recently received by the Health Board following an extensive listening and engagement exercise and ongoing feedback on the emerging themes.
No decisions on the future of healthcare delivery have been made and specific options will be announced as part of formal consultation.
The independent authors of the report, ORS, said the exercise had been comprehensive.
Dale Hall, the managing director of Swansea-based ORS said: “The fact that so many survey respondents had encountered Hywel Dda Health Board’s listening engagement process shows how extensive it was.
“Apart from the questionnaire and engagement work ORS carried out, the Health Board held many meetings and publicised the issues widely – so the public, community organisations and staff had many chances to participate and influence the evolution of the Board’s thinking.
“Such a comprehensive programme will always invite some concerns, but taken overall the listening and engagement process has been extremely conscientious, accessible and fair to those wishing to express their views.”
As well as questionnaires, direct letters and focus groups, further key activity as part of the listening and engagement exercise included:
  • 12 Meet the Health Board events
  • distribution of a case for change booklet and DVD to households
  • multiple briefings and meetings with stakeholders;
  • engagement with politicians and lobby groups
  • media interviews and press releases
  • an online resource library
Hywel Dda Health Board Chairman Chris Martin said: “We are pleased that the listening and engagement exercise has stimulated a quality debate with staff, stakeholders, patients and the general public. What came through clearly was the real passion that our local communities have for their health service. We acknowledge areas where concern has been expressed and will address these in the consultation.
“We would urge everyone to maintain the energy from the listening and engagement exercise and work with us to continue the conversation later this summer.”
