Skills convention for Parc y Scarlets, Llanelli

More than 2,000 14 to 16-year-old pupils will be attending a Carmarthenshire Council organised careers/skills convention at Parc y Scarlets on February 7th.
The massive youth conference will empower those attending to gain advice and information from representatives of Industry on different career areas as part of their Key Skill in Improving Own Learning and Performance.
The Council says retaining young people is vital to ensure that new entrepreneurship skills are delivered in the world of work allowing Carmarthenshire to become an innovative county.
They will be seeking specific information on job descriptions, holidays pay, working hours and future job prospects
The day will focus on six sectors:
• Food Manufacturing
• IT/Media
• Care
• Manufacturing
• Construction
• Retail/Entrepreneurship
The Council has organised the conference to help improve job seeking opportunities in the current economic recession which has seen an increase in the number of young people unemployed within the county. There are a number of different projects within the local authority and other agencies that can provide support and opportunities for young people. As a local authority retaining its indigenous young people is vital to ensure that new entrepreneurship skills are delivered in the world of work. It will allow Carmarthenshire to become an innovative County.
To allow innovation the Council believe that the private sector has an important role to play. A positive culture needs to be developed in people of all ages in all areas because Carmarthenshire is lacking in the number of business start ups and innovative businesses.
Creating the right culture in business will result in good quality skills, confidence in people themselves and the right knowledge will have a long term impact on the local economy.
