Recycling reminder to Carmarthenshire residents

This year’s Recycle Week runs from June 20–26 and residents in Carmarthenshire are being reminded how easy it is to recycle more.
Approximately 94% of people in Wales think recycling is important. Yet while more than half of us (56 per cent) say we recycle everything which can be recycled, more than one in three of us (36 per cent) say we recycle a lot but not everything we could recycle.*
That’s why Carmarthenshire County Council is working with Waste Awareness Wales to encourage people to recycle more, and telling them what they can and cannot recycle in the area.
Executive board member for the environment Councillor Philip Hughes said: “Almost everyone agrees that recycling is important, but few of us realise how easy it is to recycle more. This week is about sharing information about what we can recycle in Carmarthenshire, telling people where to go for information, and giving them tips to help them recycle more.
“Here’s an example: most of us recycle the waste we produce in the kitchen or the dining room, but we don’t always recycle waste from the bathroom or bedroom bin. Simply remembering to separate all your household rubbish – not just recycling materials from downstairs – can make a big difference.
“It’s also really important that people know what they can recycle. Everyone knows that you can recycle paper and tins, but few of us realise that items such as batteries and electricals can also be recycled at your nearest Household Waste Recycling Centre.”
Carmarthenshire’s Household Waste Recycling Centres are open seven days a week (except for Christmas Day and New Year’s Day). During the summer (April 1 to September 30) Trostre, Nantycaws, Wernddu, and Whitland are open from 8.30am to 7pm and Llangadog is open from 8am to 6pm weekdays and 10am to 4pm weekends and bank holidays.
