Ammanford ready for Big Day Out

Ammanford's Big Day Out explodes into life on Saturday July 9 with its immensely popular Mardis-Gras Carnival.
This successful event sponsored by Taylor Wimpey has been given a new lease of life after the county council successfully secured a grant from the Western Valleys programme.
The Valleys – Heart and Soul of Wales is a three-year campaign led by partnership organisations from the Western Valleys, Heads of the Valleys and The Valleys Partnership.
The aim is to change perceptions of The Valleys, attract more tourists and bring long-term economic benefits to the area and this year’s Ammanford Big Day Out is sure to do just that.
The streets will be running with riotous colour when the mass parade takes to the streets wending its way to the Recreation Ground through anticipated crowds of 3-4,000 people. This year the festivities have the theme “Birds” so expect some flights of fancy on the parade.
There’s a series of arena acts booked including the Rockwood Dog Display team and Battling Giants!
Together with live music from The Peep Show, The Vibe and Kane’d, a fantastic family funfair, there will be children’s entertainment including circus skills, pottery demonstrations, free face painting, trade stands and much more.
Running alongside the event will be Carmarthenshire junior football tournament featuring hundreds of players from across the region.
Carmarthenshire County Council is supporting the event with Ammanford Rotary Club. The Rotary Club is looking for local groups to take part in the walking parade in character costume or to join the samba band (no previous experience required and anyone can join in!) Please contact John Evans on (01269) 593938/john.evans@zen.co.uk
The County Council is looking for people, groups and businesses to take part in the event in any way they wish.
There are pitches for trade or exhibition stands available (no charge for charities & community groups and a small charge of £25 per pitch for businesses).
County executive board member for leisure services Cllr Clive Scourfield said: “With so many people from the local area and beyond attending this event- one of the most popular carnivals in the county- it is great opportunity to showcase businesses and musical talent to a captive audience.”
If you would like to get involved, please contact Sian Williams on 01269 590258 or e-mail marketing@carmarthenshire.gov.uk
