Carmarthenshire's Vivienne recognised as top student

A member of Carmarthenshire County Council’s Trading Standards Team - Vivienne Jones - has been recognised as the top student in the UK in her field.
And two students who did work placements with the county council’s Public Protection Division, Rachel Smith and Angharad Evans, have achieved First Class Honours degrees.
All three were congratulated by council chair Cllr Tegwen Devichand at a reception in the Chairman’s Room at County Hall, Carmarthen.
Vivienne, who is a technical support officer with Carmarthenshire Trading Standards, has been awarded a Foundation Certificate in Consumer Affairs and Trading Standards and has won the Trading Standards Institute Foundation Certificate in Consumer Affairs and Trading Standards prize for top student in the UK in 2010.
She said: “I am absolutely delighted to have won this award.”
Angharad, who is from Brechfa, has achieved a BSc First Class Honours in Consumer Affairs and Trading Standards at UWIC.
She said: “I am absolutely over the moon with the result. I am the first of my family to go to university.”
Rachel, who is from Ammanford, has been awarded a BSc First Class Honours in Environmental Health by UWIC and has been nominated for the Chartered Institute of Environmental Health Graduate of the Year award.
She said: “I have just started work for Carmarthenshire County Council as an Environmental Health Practitioner.”
Cllr Devichand said: “I am very pleased with how well they have done. It has involved hard work and is a real achievement. Carmarthenshire should be very proud.”
Head of public protection Philip Davies said: “All three graduates have attained an exceptional result and it serves to demonstrate the high professional standards that Carmarthenshire is capable of producing and delivering.”
Executive board member for housing and public protection Cllr Hugh Evans said: “Regulatory services provided by Carmarthenshire County Council are a vital function which affects all of its residents and visitors to the county.
“It is an exceptional day for all those involved, not only the young people but their families, and I am sure that all three will have a very successful future in front of them.”
