Carmarthenshire fair in running for award

A one-stop funding fair in Carmarthenshire has been shortlisted for a major national award.
The Regional Funding Fair has made it through to the finals of the prestigious Excellence Wales awards.
The inaugural event two years ago attracted more than 1,500 people and over 50 exhibitors to the United Counties Showground.
It was such a big success that a second regional event has just been staged at Ffos Las.
Organisers say the event has helped to shape the future of partnership working in South West Wales.
Carmarthenshire County Council officers approached the South Wales Regional Partnership with proposals for a regional pilot event, after a successful local funding fair.
Scores of groups, charities and organisations attended to meet with high profile funders, and access top level advice on grant support and funding streams.
A statement of intent for regional partnership working between the local authorities and the councils for voluntary service in South West Wales was signed at the event,
The work that was done has now been held up an example of excellence and shortlisted in the Collaboration category of the awards.
Carmarthenshire Council Leader Meryl Gravell said: “The regional funding fair is an excellent example of partnership working which is delivering real benefits to our communities.
“I am delighted that it has been shortlisted for this prestigious award and I commend everyone involved in making this such a successful project.”
The event was jointly organised and funded by Carmarthenshire County Council, Carmarthenshire Association of Voluntary Services, Neath Port Talbot County Borough Council, Neath Port Talbot Council for Voluntary Services, Pembrokeshire County Council, Pembrokeshire Association for Voluntary Services, the City and County of Swansea and Swansea Council for Voluntary Services, with support from the WLGA Regional Partnership Forum for South West Wales.
Mair Stephens, Chair of Trustees for Carmarthenshire Association of Voluntary Services said: “We’ve been delighted by the enormous amount of positive feedback we have received from the groups we represent, particularly concerning the range and quality of the support and information available in one location.”
Excellence Wales is Welsh local government’s inaugural awards and good practice scheme. Its key aim is to share learning and good practice across Wales and the UK.
The scheme is managed by the WLGA and funded by the Welsh Assembly Government.
The Excellence Wales applications were assessed by members of an external panel including: Malgwyn Davies ( former Chief Executive of Caerphilly County Borough Council; Doug Elliott (former Head of the Audit Commission in Wales); Sue Essex ( former Welsh Assembly Government Minister);David Jenkins (Chair of Aneurin Bevan Health Board and former General Secretary of Wales TUC); Richard Parry Hughes (former leader of Gwynedd Council); Fran Targett (Director, Citizens Advice Cymru) and Owen Watkins (former Chief Executive of Ceredigion County).
