Carmarthen Town AFC latest column in the Carmarthen Journal
The latest 'View from Richmond Park' column which appears in the Carmarthen Journal this week -
There was a very warm welcome for Carmarthen Town AFC on their recent trip to Pembroke to play Hundleton.
The match was hosted at the nearby Monkton Swifts ground a short walk away from glorious Pembroke Castle.
A huge amount of effort had gone into preparing the pitch for the match. Carmarthen showed their gratitude by hammering home nine goals against Hundleton!
It was good to see defender Richard Hughes on the sidelines.
Hughes, who made 28 appearances for Town last season, is currently making steady progress recovering from an ankle injury.
He is wished all the best for a speedy recovery and Carmarthen Town fans will be eagerly awaiting his return to action at Richmond Park.
Last week, this column mentioned that Ysgol Nantgaredig won the Roger Evans Memorial Award at the recent junior school football tournament and fete staged at Richmond Park.
A word of explanation is needed about the Roger Evans trophy.
Roger was a tireless worker for Carmarthen Town and had been involved in all aspects of the club’s activities for close on two decades.
At one time, he ran the club’s Under-12s, Under-14s and reserve teams.
It is fitting that his name should be remembered in the award of a trophy to a team that best encompassed the spirit of football throughout the tournament.
Still on the subject of the very successful fete and football tournament, Journal readers will be aware that there was a special prize for the winning lucky number programme.
The winning number was 318 and Carmarthen Town AFC executive committee vice-chairman Anthony Parnell presented the winner, Paula Jones, of Llanelli, with her £100 cash prize.
Next Saturday, July 31, Town travel to Mangotsfield United in Bristol.
Carmarthen are organising a bus to the game which will leave the old clubhouse at 10.00 am.
All welcome. £7 adults / £5 concessionary. Names to club chairman Gareth (G O) Jones on 07814262656.
Mangotsfield play in The Zamaretto League Division One South & West. You can find out more about them by visiting - http://www.mangos.freehosting.net
The new Welsh Premier League season is fast approaching, so now is the time to invest in season tickets for Carmarthen Town AFC.
