Buckley puts out welcome mat for Brecon Jazz

Award-winning brewer Simon Buckley has put out the welcome mat for the return of the Brecon Jazz Festival.
Mr Buckley, brewer of the True Taste of Wales Gold Award beer called Cwrw, operates two major venues in Brecon – The George Hotel and the Bull’s Head.
“The Brecon Jazz Festival is famous the world over and I am delighted that we can play our own part in making sure it is a great success,” said Mr Buckley.
The Brecon Jazz Festival (August 6-8) will this year celebrate enduring legends like Hugh Masekela and the Orquesta Buena Vista Social Club, featuring Omara Portuondo.
Featured bands at the festival include - the Portico Quartet and Kairos 4tet to Get The Blessing, Matthew Halsall, Brass Jaw, Gwilym Simcock and Kit Downes.
At The George Hotel, one of the prime attractions will be Steely Scam (pictured above), the world-famous Steely Dan tribute band.
This five-piece band promise a performance second to none, not only for Steely Dan fans but for all music lovers and musicians.
More than just another tribute band, these superb musicians recreate the intricacies of Fagen and Becker's music and deliver an evening of fabulous entertainment!
Another major attraction at The George will be the Mike Harries Root Doctors.
Mike has been making music in Cardiff since the late 1940s for the most time in the New Orleans traditional style.
He formed the Root Doctors in 1987, bringing together a group of both experienced and young musicians, proficient in a variety of musical styles.
The ambition was to blend to together a programme of jazz, blues, R'n'B, funk and all stations south, creating a fresh and exciting sound. There have been many personnel changes over the years, but the music is always eminently danceable and above all else fun.
“There is a real ‘Wow’ factor to the musicians on show at The George,” said the hotel’s general manager Les Rees.
“There is a real buzz of excitement about the place as we build up to the festival.
“Here at The George and at the Bull’s Head there will be a warm welcome for jazz fans. We can promise great entertainment in great company, in great surroundings and with the very best in real ale.
“In short, it’s heaven for jazz fans, music fans and entertainment fans visiting the Brecon Festival.”
