The latest 'On Song' column from the Llanelli Star

The latest 'On Song' column (about the choral scene in and around Llanelli) from the Llanelli Star -

It’s been a busy weekend for Côr Meibion Llanelli Male Voice Choir.
Adulam Chapel in Felinfoel was converted into a temporary recording studio for the choir as they laid down the tracks for album for the Sain recording company.
“We had 52 choristers in the chapel for Friday night and most of Saturday,” said Côr Meibion Llanelli musical director Eifion Thomas.
“It was a great experience and the choristers worked very hard on the recordings.
“We were assisted by our regular accompanist Aled Maddock and our guest organist Allan Fewster.
“In addition, the celebrated soprano Adele O’Neill was our guest for a number of tracks.
“The end result will be in the shops later this year. The choir has a well-deserved reputation for producing an excellent sound and we hope that this recording will reflect the very high standard of choral singing we regularly achieve on our travels both home and abroad.”
Songs recorded for the album include – Mona Lisa, Moon Rover, Speak Softly, Love, Wade in the Water, Ave Maria, Stille Nacht, Cri yn y nos, Some Enchanted Evening and Anfonaf Angel.
There were solo spots for choir stalwarts Byron Thomas and Anthony Bowen.
Fans of the choir will get the chance to hear some ‘live’ versions of the CD recordings at Côr Meibion Llanelli’s next performance on Sunday, July 12.
Côr Meibion Llanelli will be holding a special concert with The Three Welsh Tenors at the Selwyn Samuel Centre.
And they will also be joined by some extra special guests – Llangennech Junior School Choir - Ysgol Iau Llangennech.
The school choir performed admirably in the BBC Songs of Praises to deliver a "faultless" performance to come top in the junior school choir category.
The Three Welsh Tenors will have their work cut out at the big concert on July 12 as the Llangennech pupils will be doing their best to outshine them.
The Three Welsh Tenors, Rhys Meirion, Aled Hall and Aled Wyn Davies since December 2014 (Alun Rhys-Jenkins original member), first came together to sing as a trio for the Celtfest extravaganza in Cardiff as part of a spectacular line up of stars to entertain rugby fans prior to a Wales vs New Zealand match.
Tickets are £15 and available from the Selwyn Samuel centre 07798 870598, the Halfway Hotel 01554 773571 and any Côr Meibion Llanelli chorister.
It has been a special week for Côr Curiad.
On Friday night, the choir received the special ‘Extra Mile’ award at the Llanelli Star Community Awards.
Earlier in the week, Côr Curiad performed at the Pierhead building next to The Senedd in Cardiff Bay for Dolen Cymru's 30th anniversary ‘Mokete’ celebration.
Dolen Cymru is an independent charity which has fostered a unique country to country link between Wales and Lesotho. Since 1985 life-changing partnerships have been created between communities, schools, health organisations and individuals.
Côr Curiad were one of a number of choirs invited to attend the celebration.
“It was,” said choir musical director Alex Esney, “a lovely experience for the Côr Curiad ladies and they were very honoured to be invited.”
Lleisiau Hardd choir from Llanelli will be celebrating 10 years as a choir with their special concert at Ffwrnes Theatre, Llanelli, on Saturday, July 18.
