Welsh Office Minister watches the eclipse in Llanelli

Llanelli’s North Dock played host to dozens of eclipse enthusiasts all wanting to catch a glimpse of the rare phenomenon.
One of those was Welsh Office Minister Baroness Randerson who managed to capture the moment whilst visiting the Discovery Centre and Millennium Coastal Park as part of National Tourism Week March 14-22, also Carmarthenshire tourism month.
The Baroness was given a tour of the centre before heading down the coastal path to experience first hand the breathtaking views and attractions the park has to offer.
Thousands of visitors a year are now making their way to the breathtaking Millennium Coastal Park. Everyone who comes to the award-winning park leaves with a lasting memory of its scale and beauty.
The council’s countryside and parks manager, Rory Dickinson said: “The baroness seemed very impressed with what the Discovery Centre and Millennium Coastal Park has to offer. She even mentioned bringing her family here for a day out.”
In just over 10 years, the 22 kilometres of coastline along the Loughor estuary has been transformed into a unique array of tourist attractions, wildlife habitats and leisure facilities.
Tourism is Wales’ second-largest industry and generated £2.3 billion of spending in 2013.
Of the 96.72 million trips taken in Great Britain from January-October 2014, 8.9 per cent of these were to Wales, an increase from the same period in 2013.
The total volume of nights spent in Wales during the first ten months of 2014 was 1.5 per cent up compared with the same period in 2013.
Spending on visits to Wales in the first ten months of 2014 has risen compared with the same period in 2013.
Baroness Randerson said: “The Welsh tourism industry is a great success story for our country, bringing investment and creating jobs across the country. Millions of people travel to Wales every year to see our beautiful scenery, visit our historic buildings and sample our award-winning food and drink.”
