Winners to be revealed for Carmarthenshire Sports Personality Awards


Tickets are selling fast for the Carmarthenshire Sports Personality Awards 2014 when 12 of the county’s top sporting heroes will be crowned winners next Friday.
A full house is expected to turn out at Y Ffwrnes Theatre which plays host to the annual sporting talent event on January 30.
Thirty six finalists will take their seats ahead of the 12 awards winners being announced as well as the Hall of Fame award which goes to rugby legends the late Ray Gravell and Stuart Gallacher.
Categories include sports personality, young sportsman and sportswoman, disabled sportsman and sportswoman, sports coach, sports volunteer, young volunteer, team of the year, young team of the year, community sport coach, high performance coach and the Ryan Jones Memorial Award for outstanding services to sport.
In its 17th year the event recognises the sporting achievements of athletes, coaches and volunteers across Carmarthenshire.
Executive board member for regeneration and leisure, Cllr Meryl Gravell said: “The evening promises to be a very enjoyable occasion once again. The quality of entries received this year has been exceptional and shows the huge talent we have here in Carmarthenshire. This event gives us the opportunity to recognise and celebrate those athletes, coaches and volunteers who achieve and who contribute to the continued success of sport in the county.”
The awards are organised by Carmarthenshire Council's sports development unit in partnership with the Carmarthenshire Local Sports Council.
MC for the evening is international referee Nigel ‘Ref’ Owens and Llangennech Primary School choir will open the celebrations. Guests will also include media partners SWWMedia Ltd and main sponsor Owens Logistics.
Other sponsors include TAD Builders, Toppers, Parker Plant, Active Young People Carmarthenshire, Manhattan Marketing, Sport Wales, Castell Howell and Dyfed Menswear.
