Main purpose of job
Assist in the general management of a busy parcel and pallet distribution company, ensuring maximum profitability while maintaining the best possible standards of service and efficiency.
Main responsibilities
Assist in the direction and control of all depot operations to ensure that profitability targets are achieved and that full utilization is made of both vehicles and staff while maintaining the highest standards of safety and efficiency.
Maintain a close liaison with existing and potential customers to ensure that they are completely satisfied with the service provided.
Develop any necessary procedures to ensure that vehicle maintenance, health and safety standards are strictly implemented and adhered to.
Ensure that harmonious working relationships are maintained and that they are appropriately trained and motivated to carry out their responsibilities to the highest standards.
Ability to negotiate with subcontractors to supplement the services provided by the company’s own vehicles and monitor their performance to ensure that it meets the company’s standards.
Ability to maintain and enhance relationships with the company’s suppliers.
Knowledge, skills and experience required
The job requires:
a certificate of professional competence (CPC);
at least 2 years’ experience of transport
knowledge of vehicle scheduling and planning;
management experience;
good communication/people skills.
IT literate.
