Rising star Samuel Morris shines at Llanelli Rotary night


Llanelli singer Samuel Morris was the guest soloist at Llanelli Rotary Club's 'President's Night' at the Stradey Park Hotel, Llanelli.
Accompanied by Andrew Pike, he gave memorable performances of 'Stars' from the musical Les Miserables and 'Anthem' from Chess.
Samuel is having a very busy autumn with solo spots at Radio Carmarthenshire and Scarlet FM Local Hero Awards, the Royal British Legion Gala Concert at the Lyric in Carmarthen and in the Night of the Stars at Ffwrnes Theatre, singing alongside Shan Cothi and Mark Llewelyn Evans.
All this, when he only started singing this year.

Samuel is part of an ambitious plan to develop young talent in South West Wales.
Cerith Owens, the director of Loud Applause Productions has set up a ‘Rising Stars’ platform as part of his concert and theatre company.
Samuel is a 17-year-old student at Ysgol Gyfun y Strade, Llanelli.
His dream is to become a West End star.
This year, Samuel has played the role of Marius in SA15 Stage School's production of Les Miserables and the lead male role of ‘Link Larkin’ in The Performance Factory's production of the Broadway musical Hairspray.
Samuel has a repertoire which includes a large range of popular musical theatre songs along with beautiful ballads performed in Welsh and English.
Mr Owens said: “Loud Applause Productions has included Samuel in future gala concerts to provide him with more stage experience and a platform for others to enjoy his remarkable voice. I believe we have discovered a future West End Star.”
Samuel’s performance requests have spiralled in recent months and he is now being managed by Llanelli-based Mr Owens.


Also part of the ‘Rising Stars’ team is the newly-formed musical theatre trio Three Voices, pictured above.
The three members are all from Carmarthenshire - Samuel Morris, Liam Reilly and Jole Harding.
Jole Harding has featured in local productions in the roles of Jean Valjean and Judge Turpin.
He has also played Mercutio in Shakespeare’s Romeo and Juliet.
Liam Reilly is currently studying at Gorseinon College. He has performed in local productions in the roles of Captain Von-Trapp, Daddy Warbucks and Javert.
Three Voices will be available for musical evenings from this autumn.
Mr Owens said that he would like to hear from other up-and-coming artistes interested in joining the ‘Rising Stars’ team.

Former Gower MP Gareth Wardell was the guest speaker at the weekly meeting of Llanelli Rotary Club held at the Stradey Park Hotel. 'Class of 1980' from Burry Port enjoy reunion

There was a big class reunion held in Burry Port at the weekend. Members of the Class of 1980 from Porth Tywyn (Burry Port junior) School got together at The Coasting Pilot pub. The reunion was organised by Christine Rees and same 22 members of the original class of 28 turn up to discuss their old schooldays. One ‘Class of 1980’ member was Burry Port businessman Owain Davies. He said: “We all have very happy memories of our time in school. We had a fantastic teacher in Mr Heddwyn Jones, who now lives in Four Roads. “We were very fortunate to have the same teacher for three years and we were a very happy class. Lauryn Davey is making her mark in athletics - but needs sponsors

Ammanford-based Lauryn Davey is making a major mark in the world of Welsh athletics. At just 16, she is the best all-round athlete of her age in Wales. She's chalking up Welsh championship victories and has been honoured by her club, the Carmarthen Harriers. Lauryn's been earmarked as a future international star, but knows the road to the big championships is difficult, demanding and expensive. Ammanford businessman and well-known comic entertainer Phil Evans has launched a campaign to get cash backers for Lauryn's athletics career.
