More new signings for Carmarthen Town AFC


Carmarthen Town were pleased to announce some more important signings for the club over the weekend
Firstly, on the managerial and coaching side, Colin Staples (pictured above) has rejoined the club as the Academy Director and also will form part of Tomi Morgan’s managerial team.
With Terry Boyle having taken on a full time role with Neath, Morgan has appointed Staples as his new right-hand man.
Staples brings a wealth of experience to the club. He is currently a Welsh Football Trust Football Development Officer and also holds coaching roles with several National squads.
Colin has just returned from Germany – analysing and reporting on current Women’s World Cup.
His Qualifications include being an UEFA “A” Licence holder since 1996, and also he has a Diploma in Sports Psychology.
“Not only will Colin have a key role with the first team squad but he will also oversee the future development of our Academy. Therefore I consider the appointment of Colin Staples as Academy Director as a major step forward for the club as we face the challenges of competing in the Welsh Premier League,” was the opinion of Gareth Jones, the Executive Chairman of Carmarthen Town Football Club.
Secondly, the EH Factors and Clothing Sponsored Old Gold are also pleased to announce that several more of last season’s squad have re-signed for the coming season.
The latest are the captain and centre back, Dale Griffiths, while last season’s leading scorer, Tim Hicks, has also agreed terms with the club.
Corey Thomas also returns to Richmond Park after having helped his former club, Afan Lido, in getting into the Welsh Premier League.
Joining the club from Aberystwyth Town will be Cledan Davies. A left sided attacker it was Davies who scored the winning goal for his former club against Carmarthen Town in the last game of the 2010-11 season.
Morgan was understandably very pleased that these signings had been completed.
“Both Dale and Tim are integral part of my squad. They showed their faith and loyalty to the club last season as they remained as senior players in a young squad. They were excellent role models for the new players who arrived. Corey promised that he would return to the club and I am glad that he has kept to his word. Cledan will bring us a more natural balance to the side as he is naturally left footed and am sure that he will have an impact on the club.”

Former Gower MP Gareth Wardell was the guest speaker at the weekly meeting of Llanelli Rotary Club held at the Stradey Park Hotel. 'Class of 1980' from Burry Port enjoy reunion

There was a big class reunion held in Burry Port at the weekend. Members of the Class of 1980 from Porth Tywyn (Burry Port junior) School got together at The Coasting Pilot pub. The reunion was organised by Christine Rees and same 22 members of the original class of 28 turn up to discuss their old schooldays. One ‘Class of 1980’ member was Burry Port businessman Owain Davies. He said: “We all have very happy memories of our time in school. We had a fantastic teacher in Mr Heddwyn Jones, who now lives in Four Roads. “We were very fortunate to have the same teacher for three years and we were a very happy class. Mr Jones was an inspiring teacher and we all got on every well and we are all still good friends. “Heather Thomas (now Heather Osmond) made it from Surrey, but she was trumped by Gail Morris, who flew in from Ohio in the United States for the reunion. “It was a fantastic evening at the Coasting Pilot with good food, good wine and good company. Lauryn Davey is making her mark in athletics - but needs sponsors

Ammanford-based Lauryn Davey is making a major mark in the world of Welsh athletics. At just 16, she is the best all-round athlete of her age in Wales. She's chalking up Welsh championship victories and has been honoured by her club, the Carmarthen Harriers. Lauryn's been earmarked as a future international star, but knows the road to the big championships is difficult, demanding and expensive. Ammanford businessman and well-known comic entertainer Phil Evans has launched a campaign to get cash backers for Lauryn's athletics career. "Everyone in the area is hugely proud of her achievements in athletics to date," said Phil. "But we also want to see her go on and do bigger and better things.
