New beer celebrates eight generations

The Llandeilo-based Evan-Evans brewery has launched a new premium beer to celebrate the birth of Harry John Buckley the 8th generation of the Buckley brewing family.
The new beer, to be known as HBA, or Harry Buckley’s Ale, is one of the new generation of premium beers to be launched by Evan-Evans this autumn.
HBA is a 5% strong ale that has received rave reviews in testing.
It is now widely available throughout South and North Wales.
The beer is a strong ale that is to be savoured. It has a unique dry palette.

Simon Buckley, chief executive of Evan-Evans, said: “Our brewery has had a good year, and this new generation of beers is the next piece in the jigsaw as we move forwards.
“We have spent the last few months developing a new range of strong beers that will be launched over the autumn and winter months and will mean that the company has a range of beers that are second to none in the specialist sector in Wales.
“The combination of our Archers and Evan-Evans brands is an enviable portfolio of quality cask and bottle beers.
“The HBA beer has been brewed to celebrate the birth of my grandson Harry, the eighth generation of the famous Buckley brewing family.
“In the late 1880s Harry Davies, the head brewer of our family brewery in Llanelli, started a tradition that I am proud to continue, as part of our rich brewing heritage.
“When a new male member of the family is born, it is the tradition that the junior brewer produces a commemorative ale to celebrate the safe delivery of the next generation of the family - and to wet the baby’s head!
“In Mid-July Harry John Buckley was born, a bouncing 5lb 12 ozs. And hopefully the 8th generation of the family to brew beer!
“Unlike Harry Davies, we do not have an army of subordinate brewers to produce the beer, so Ivan Kelleher, my award winning brewer, and I set to work.
“It will be some 17 years before Harry will legally be able to taste his grandfather’s handiwork!”
Mr Buckley added: “HBA is a wonderful new premium beer, a rich dark amber, full bodied beer with delicious, dry biscuit malt body, and distinctive fresh fruity palette.
“Our new collection of beers will include a new porter, a stout and several full-bodied premium beers, and will spearhead a drive into England, and continental Europe.
“We have had huge interest in our bottle beers and we now have an American agent.
“Our Royal range of beers is due out in time for Christmas and will be based on a recipe first brewed by the family in 1912, for the then Prince of Wales.”
Evan-Evans was awarded the Gold Medal at the True Taste of Wales awards 2009 and voted the third best brewer in the UK in the Best Bitter category in 2009 and 2010. No other brewer from Wales has done that before in the history of the competition.
