Carmarthen fans on their bikes for charities

A group of Carmarthen Town soccer fans are getting on their bikes for charity.
Eight intrepid cyclists are planning a marathon 135-mile trek from North Wales to Carmarthen to raise money for the Carmarthen Town AFC Community Programme and two local charities.
“It’s a big task for the cyclists, but they are keen to do all they can to support our community programme and they have the full support of everyone at Carmarthen Town,” said soccer club chairman Jeff Thomas.
“We wish them well for their training, the journey itself and any sponsorship funds they collect on their way. I am sure the people of Carmarthen will give them great support.”
The cycling marathon will take place between April 22 and 24 and will take the team from Cefn Mawr, Wrexham, to Carmarthen.
They will actually set off from the ground of Carmarthen Town’s opponents Elements Cefn Druids, planning to arrive at Richmond Park, Carmarthen, in time for the Welsh Premier League match against the North Wales side at 2:30pm on the Saturday, April 24.
The match will be Carmarthen Town’s final game of the season and the cyclists are assured of a great welcome by the crowd.
The cyclists hope to raise more than £2,500 and the cash will be split 50/50 between the Carmarthen AFC Community Programme and the two charities
The club’s community programme is sponsored by EMC Electrical Services and involves a number of projects aimed at building on the community links between the soccer team and the residents of Carmarthen.
The two local charities who will benefit are the Carmarthen and District Hearing Impaired Group and The Megan and Trevor Griffiths (Bronwydd) Trust.
The hearing group was founded in 1983 they arrange a programme of speakers and other events for the hard of hearing.
