Llanelli bail hostel protest due at closed meeting | This is South Wales Residents living near a Llanelli bail hostel are set to stage a protest outside the town hall. A demonstration will be held by people living around the hostel in Swansea Road before a closed meeting tomorrow night attended by representatives from Stonham BASS — the company with the Government contract to run the hostel, the Wales Offender Management Service, Carmarthenshire Council, MP Nia Griffith, and selected residents. Secretary of the Queen Victoria Road Residents’ Association, Catriona Waldron, said the meeting will only be open to 12 residents.

Club chair Gareth Jones told the meeting that he feared the club had become stagnant He said: “We are not in financial problems, but we need new blood and fresh ideas. The bottom line is we are not sustainable as a club if we carry on in this way. Things have to change.” “I am proposing a new management structure. Clamp on drunkenness at Llanelli carnival

Police are taken measurers this year to ensure Wales’s biggest Christmas Carnival is not spoiled by drunkeness. They have been visiting schools before Friday‘s Llanelli Carnival because of large numbers of drunken young teenagers apprehended early on carnival night last year. They hope by education, offering advice and police presence to deter underage drinking. The youngsters' Facebook and electronic gadget grapevine was to blame last year, suggest police. Llanelli carnival committee heard how as early at 5pm on Carnival night last year many teenagers as young as 13 and 14 were being taken home in an intoxicated state. Some young girls were found lying on the grass so inebriated they were unable to stand. There was little trouble but people had been amazed at the level of drunkenness. Students through to Young Business Dragons finals

Students from two Carmarthenshire schools are through to the finals of the Swansea Bay Young Business Dragons. The teams from St John Lloyd Catholic Comprehensive and Bryngwyn School in Llanelli will take on teams from Olchfa Comprehensive School and Bishop Vaughan Catholic School in Swansea, and Dyffryn Comprehensive School and St Joseph’s Roman Catholic School in Neath Port Talbot in the Dragon’s Den style final of the entrepreneurial business challenge this Thursday. They go through from the semi finals held at Parc y Scarlets, Llanelli, last month. The Year 10 students will be putting forward Olympic-inspired business ideas to a panel of top business figures at Margam Orangery. The winning team and business idea will scoop £1,000 prize money and the coveted title of Swansea Bay Young Business Dragons 2011. Forgot to upload last week's 'View from Richmond Park' Carmarthen Town AFC column - Carmarthen Town AFC stages the first mini-football match of the season during the home match versus Neath on Friday night. Ysgol y Dderwen will play Richmond Park School under floodlights at half-time. The schoolchildren will be treated to refreshments at the Latham Suite in the Community Centre Clubhouse and at the start of the match will go onto the field to greet the players and form a guard of honour. The match will be played at half time on a mini-pitch on the main Richmond Park pitch and will last for 10+ minutes. Teams will be 7 a side with 3 rolling substitutes allowed, boys and girls are eligible to play. The match is part of a series of games staged under the banner of the EMC Electrical Services Community Programme at Carmarthen Town AFC. Jenkins the Bakers help Children In Need

The Jenkins Bakery is doing its bit for the BBC’s annual Children In Need appeal. The bakery, which has 25 shops across South Wales, has produced a special biscuit in the shape of the Children In Need mascot, Pudsey Bear. For every biscuit sold, the Jenkins Bakery is donating 10p to Children In Need. “Our target is to sell 3,000,” said Operations Director Russell Jenkins. “In addition, we find that our customers also boost the appeal by putting donations in boxes in our stores. “The public are very generous when it comes to supporting a charitable event such as Children In Need. “The Children In Need day captures the public’s imagination and we are doing our small bit to get into the spirit of it all by producing the Pudsey Bear biscuit. “They are very popular with the customers and, hopefully, we will raise a decent sum of money for Children In Need.” The Pudsey Bear biscuits are selling for 80p.
