Work to start on Withybush Hospital renal unit
Patients are being advised that a programme of refurbishment and preparation work for the construction of Withybush Hospital’s new renal unit is due to start on site within the next few weeks.
Award-winning construction company Interserve has been appointed to carry out the programme of enabling works and patients will see the hoardings put up at the front of the hospital shortly. As part of the refurbishment work plans are being put in place to create a dedicated stroke and rehabilitation unit.
Interim County Director for Pembrokeshire Mark Brandreth said: “This is the start of a very exciting time for the development of services in Pembrokeshire. Establishing a permanent renal service, as well as dedicated facilities for stroke patients, at Withybush Hospital has always been a long-term ambition for the Health Board and it is a project that will greatly improve the quality of service to all these patients.
“We are very pleased to see the start of this work, as well as the general refurbishment work, and would politely ask patients and the public to be aware of any changes to car-parking, traffic and hospital access during this time.”
As part of the work, Interserve will carry out planned repair work to the floor of the Acute Clinical Decisions Unit (ACDU) at Withybush Hospital. To facilitate this, this unit will be temporarily relocated into nearest ground floor area, the Community Support Intermediate Unit (CSIU) which will transfer to Ward 12 until the 10 week refurbishment is complete.
As part of the ongoing programme, plans are being put in place to refurbish Ward 12 to create a dedicated acute stroke and rehabilitation unit for patients and to refurbish Ward 11 as well as improving the bathroom facilities for patients using the Coronary Care Unit (CCU) and cardiac stepdown area.
Mr Brandreth added: “During this period of refurbishment and construction, we will do eveything possible to keep disruption to a minimum and to keep patients and staff informed about building works that will affect them. Once complete, this work will represent a signifigant improvement to health facilities and patient care in Pembrokeshire, especially for our renal, stroke and rehabilitation patients.”
