Success for Carmarthenshire dairy producers
Carmarthenshire dairy producers have been congratulated by the county council for their successes at the Royal Welsh Show.
The success against stiff opposition comes as new developments are in the pipeline which will strengthen the industry in the county.
Carmarthenshire County Council executive board member for regeneration and leisure Cllr Clive Scourfield said: “I would like to congratulate Carmarthenshire’s dairy producers for an outstanding number of successes at the Royal Welsh Show.
“It only goes to prove the quality of produce available from within Carmarthenshire which will be further complemented by the set up of a new dairy at the Old Creamery in Whitland and a new dairy processing unit, initially to churn butter, at Cross Hands Food Park.”
The local winners were: Farmhouse & Speciality Classes were, Farmhouse Caerphilly: 1, Caws Cenarth Carmarthenshire 1st; Farmhouse Smoked Cheese, Hard Pressed: Caws Cenarth Carmarthenshire 2nd; Farmhouse Cheese of any Variety Open to Producer, producing not more than 5 tonnes / week: Caws Cenarth Carmarthenshire 1st; Cheese, any Variety, not Cow’s Milk: Carmarthenshire Cheese Company Carmarthenshire 1st; Cheese, any Variety not to exceed 0.5KG, Any Milk: Caws Cenarth Carmarthenshire 2nd; Cheese to be Judged on Taste and Consumer Appeal: Caws Cenarth Carmarthenshire 2nd; New Cheese not previously exhibited at the Royal Welsh Show, Any Variety, Any Milk: Carmarthenshire Cheese Company Carmarthenshire 1st & 2nd.

Ice Cream, Milk and Cream Classes, a Carton of Vanilla Flavoured Ice Cream, Any Milk: Dyffryn Tywi Ice Cream Carmarthenshire 1st; a Carton of Fruit Flavoured Ice Cream: Cowpots Ice Cream Carmarthenshire 1st; a Carton of any Flavour other than Fruit Ice Cream: Mario's Luxury Dairy Ice Cream Carmarthenshire 3rd; a Flavoured Milk: Cwmheidir Farm Dairy Carmarthenshire 1st; a Display of Produce, Packaging and Promotional Material: Caws Cenarth Carmarthenshire 1st; The Caws Cenarth Perpetual Trophy, kindly donated by Gwynfor and Thelma Adams will be awarded for 'Excellence in Cheese Making' to the exhibitor gaining the highest number of points in classes 1-4 & 24 – 31 inclusive. Winner: Caws Cenarth.
