Curtain comes down on Carmarthen Bay Film Festival
The Carmarthen Bay Film Festival was brought to a close with a Gala Awards Dinner at the Stradey Park Hotel, Llanelli.
“It was a glitzy affair putting the spotlight on the very best films shown during four screening days at the festival venue at the Stradey Park Hotel,” said festival CEO and organiser Kelvin Guy.
“We had three BAFTA Cymru members at the awards dinner and one of our chief guests was Llanelli MP Nia Griffith.
“The festival, now in its third year, is truly international and it was nice to reflect that in the final awards night.”
The ‘Best of Festival’ award went to a film called La Diva, which also won the best foreign short category.
The film’s producers flew in from Italy to pick up their award.
The inaugural John Hefin award for best Welsh language short film went to a Yann Gorriz production called Glyn.
Mr Guy, a 49-year-old former Bryngwyn School pupil who is regarded as the expert on the life of Welsh silent movie star Gareth Hughes, added: “There was a big increase in entries for the Carmarthen Bay Film Festival again this year. Entries flooded in from all four corners of the globe to hit a magnificent total of 135 submissions.”
USA actress and director Jamie Lee Smith flew in from Miami to attend the screening of her film, Seven Deadly Words.
She said: “We have had a fantastic welcome in Llanelli. The festival has been hugely enjoyable and it has been wonderful to meet so many people who are passionate about film-making.
“The hospitality and welcome from the people of Llanelli has been magnificent and I hope the festival continues to gather support as it does a great deal to showcase the area and bring money in to the local community.”
Los Angeles film producer Randall Wilson showed Our Father’s War: A Vietnam Journey at the festival.
He said: “I congratulate the organisers on all their hard work. We have had a great time here in Llanelli and, luckily, we also found time to enjoy your wonderful scenery. One of the highlights was a visit to Kidwelly Castle.”
