'Long arm' of the internet sees missing charity wristbands returned to hotel

Brecon landlord Les Rees didn’t have to resort to the long arm of the law when charity wristbands went missing from The George Hotel in Brecon.
Some speedy work on social media publicised the fact the Help for Heroes/Welsh Guards wristbands had been taken from the bar area.
“We have you on closed circuit TV (CCTV),” was the message from Mr Rees to the culprits.
Within 24 hours the wristbands were returned to the hotel.
“They were returned with an apology and a suitable donation to charity,” said Mr Rees, general manager at the Evan-Evans Brewery hotel.
“I’d like to think that it was a bit of a prank which went wrong.
“Whatever the case, they have been returned to the bar area and we can continue our fundraising efforts.”
Mr Rees said he was very proud of the wristbands appeal at The George.
“Over the last three years we have raised nearly £2500 with our wristband appeal for Help the Heroes and the Welsh Guards.
“We are very proud of the fact that we have on display in the bar a framed letter from the regimental adjutant at the Welsh Guards HQ in London thanking us for our help.”
Mr Rees added: “It is a shame when these things happen. All the regulars and the staff were very upset when the wristbands went AWOL. But thanks to some speedy work on the internet we were able to publicise the disappearance and the matter was sorted to everyone’s satisfaction.”
