Four Llanelli choirs will be in the TV spotlight next month when special editions of S4C’s Noson Lawen will be recorded at Y Ffwrnes theatre in the town.
Côr Meibion Llanelli (pictured above), the Hywel Girls Choir and Hywel Boys Singers, Cantata and the Ysgol y Strade choir will be taking part in the recording sessions on four consecutive nights at the end of June.
“It just shows what a rich place Llanelli is for great choral singing,” said Côr Meibion Llanelli musical director Eifion Thomas.
“To have four choirs from the town featured in the TV recordings is a great achievement.”
Meanwhile, Côr Meibion Llanelli were featured on TV at the weekend with a repeat showing of the Welsh TV drama ‘Steddfod Steddfod’.
“It was recorded many years ago,” said Mr Thomas, “but everyone enjoys watching it again as there are so many faces in the choir that you recognise from years gone by.”
On Saturday, Côr Meibion Llanelli will be entertaining the crowds at the British Speedway Grand Prix being staged at The Millennium Stadium in Cardiff.
Mr Thomas, who is also musical director of Côr Baroc, said he would also like to thank the public for their recent support for the Baroc choir’s performance of Pergolesi’s Stabat Mater at Llanelli Parish Church.
He added: “About two years hard work went into rehearsing Stabat Mater and the performance was beyond my wildest dreams. It was also great to see the church full for the occasion.”
Saturday’s Côr Curiad Gala Concert at Y Ffwrnes Theatre in Llanelli was a big hit.
Alex Esney, musical director of Côr Curiad said: “A huge thank-you to the ladies of Côr Curiad for a fantastic performance.
“Rhys Meirion (the tenor soloist) was wonderful, Kevin Johns (the compere) was brilliant and a big thank-you goes to Emyr and Andy on drums and guitar!
“I have to say Pentip School were outstanding! The children sang their socks off and had everyone clapping along!”

Concert dates -
Côr Meibion Dyffryn Tywi's annual concert will be held on Saturday June 8 at 7 pm in the Princess Gwenllian Centre Kidwelly. Guest artists are Hogia'r Wyddfa, Eirlys Myfanwy Davies ( mezzo soprano ), Ifan and Tomos Gwynedd (clarinet).

On Saturday, July 13, Côr Meibion Llanelli will join forces with Côr Curiad for a concert at Llangennech Church, 6.30pm.
