New 'Circle' for Llanelli Choral Society

The Llanelli Choral Society has announced its “Artistic Director’s Circle” – a group of nine eminent individuals and leaders from the field of music, arts, media and public life – all with strong associations to the town of Llanelli.
The Artistic Director’s Circle plays a key role in supporting the charitable activities of the Llanelli Choral Society both at performances and beyond.
It’s a group of dedicated individuals who share the Founder and the Society’s vision and passion in making the community richer through musical endeavour and the power of music, song and friendship.
The Artistic Director’s Circle brings together Joining the Founder and Artistic Director of the Llanelli Choral Society are:
• John Hywel Williams MBE – a leading exponent of Welsh choral music and a pioneer exporter of Welsh choral music throughout Europe, North America and the former Iron Curtain with broadcasts spanning 160 countries worldwide.
• Dr Stuart Burrows OBE – one of the world’s greatest operatic tenors with over 1,600 recordings and appearances at leading opera halls worldwide.
• Huw Edwards– known to millions of viewers as the main presenter of the BBC flagship News at Ten and a leading voice and presenter of today’s current affair programmes.
• Huw Tregelles Williams OBE – former Head of Music, BBC Wales and Director of the National Orchestra of Wales and acclaimed organist.
• The Rt. Hon. Lord (Michael) Howard of Lympne QC – former Leader of Conservative Party, Minister for Local Government, Secretary of State for Employment, Secretary of State for the Environment, Home Secretary and Shadow Chancellor, Shadow Foreign Secretary, Shadow Home Secretary and Queen’s Counsel.
• Jean Hywel – a leading Welsh pianist, pianoforte educationalist and repetiteur for artists and choruses with performances and foreign broadcasts spanning over 20 countries worldwide and Chair of numerous civil and charitable committees, associations and trusts.
• Nia Griffith MP – Member of Parliament for Llanelli since 2005 and a member of the House of Commons Joint Committee on Human Rights, Welsh Affairs Select Committee and European Scrutiny Committee.
• John Owen Jones – British musical theatre actor best known for his portrayals in London’s West End of Jean Valjean (Les Miserables) and The Phantom (The Phantom of the Opera).
• Helen Mary Jones AM – a member of the National Assembly of Wales for Llanelli and former Assembly member for Mid and West Wales.
