The latest 'On Song' column from the Llanelli Star

The latest 'On Song' column from the Llanelli Star -

Llanelli charity choir 100 Voices will be performing at Ffwrnes theatre, Llanelli, on August 30 and 31.
100 voices is a charity choir set up by Dale Francis in memory of his mother and brother.
It will initially perform concerts to raise funds for Cancer Research and The Welsh Guards benevolent fund.
The aim is to grow the charity for the greater good of the people of Llanelli and in the future it will donate monies to smaller worthwhile causes in the Llanelli area, be they individuals or groups.
This concert is the first of many and is the launchpad for the 100 voices charity choir.

Meanwhile, the countdown has started to a special concert will help launch the Royal British Legion’s Poppy Appeal in South West Wales.
The Royal British Legion Charity Gala Concert will be staged at The Lyric Theatre in Carmarthen on Saturday, October 19.
It will feature Cantorion Colin Jones (the Colin Jones singers), The Siren Sisters and The 215 City of Swansea Squadron Corps of Drums.
Organiser Cerith Owens said: “Although the event is being held in Carmarthen, this is very much a South West Wales and Carmarthenshire ‘county’ event. We are hoping for a great deal of support from readers of the Llanelli Star who, we know, are big supporters of the Royal British Legion.”
Mr Owens added: “There is sure to be a lot of interest in Cantorion Colin Jones. They are a renowned North Wales choir who don’t perform in South Wales very often.”
Cantorion was founded by Colin Jones in 1992 when he invited singers, who he knew and had taught and conducted previously in other choirs across North Wales, to join his new chorus.
He was able to match his skills in voice production and choral management with the enthusiasm and commitment of some of North Wales’ finest male choral singers and soloists, and during his 15 years he established a male chorus with a special sound and quality.
The choir was extremely fortunate in obtaining the services of John Daniel as its new Musical Director in November 2008 when Colin retired after a long and successful period as its original founder and choral architect.
John hails from Rhosllannerchrugog, the same town as Colin and shares many of his predecessor’s talents and musical gifts. John leads a very full musical life, tutoring singers and pianists and giving master classes to other male voice choirs and choral societies on voice production, choral techniques and musical interpretation.
Other news:
Côr Meibion Llanelli members are enjoying a well-deserved summer break, with rehearsals at Furnace Hall not due to start back until Monday, September 2.
The choir perform for the Devynock Agricultural Society in Sennybridge on Sunday, September 8. The following Thursday (September 12), the choir travel to perform at Paderborn and Sennelager in Germany for a special Britfest for the Queen’s Dragoon Guards.
Llanelli’s Hywel Girls’ Choir and Hywel Boy Singers will enjoy two performances at the magnificent St. David’s Hall Cardiff later this year. They will star in the Wales Festival of Remembrance in November and in the Christmas Spectacular at St. David’s Hall Cardiff in December in aid of Leukaemia and Lymphoma Research.
The ladies of Côr Curiad are looking forward to their ‘winter tour’ to Tamworth in Staffordshire. The choristers will be the guests of Tamworth Male Voice Choir on the weekend of November 15-17.
